Travel Dictionary you never knew about

HEDOPHILE – one who loves to travel or lovers of being on the road ……… in EUDAIMONIA – being in a contented happy state

Come, clamber aboard “Ukiyo” my magic carpet, squeeze up, make space – yes bring your picnic & champagne, or catch our slipstream and fly with the winds, North, East, West & South (ever noticed it spells NEWS?)

In Flight – “the floating world” – living in the moment, detached from the bothers of life

Discover the clouds, feel the sunshine on your shoulders, drift between the twinkling midnight stars where you will feel YUGEN

YUGEN – a profound, mysterious sense of the beauty of the universe that triggers a deep emotional response

I want to stir, touch and move you to tears by the intoxicating experience

COMMUOVERE – to stir, to touch, to move to tears.

Go places you never imagined with intriguing words and imaginations alive. Don’t let the feelings of HIRAETH hold you back – as they serve no purpose. I used to, for my homeland, Rhodesia, which no longer exists

HIRAETH – a homesickness for a place that you can not return to or never was

One day, when at peace with the world, sitting in your rocking chair gracefully wearing wrinkles & greying hair, you will suddenly happen upon a memory of this day

NATSUKASHII – a happy recollection of an event or memory in the past

Let the wind blow back your hair and leave your eyebrows all confused

DES VU – (n) the awareness that this will become a memory

So ….. have I captured you up in my KOPFKINO?

KOPFKINO – the art of playing out an entire scenario in your mind

Travel is an amazing thing (there will be an intriguing word for this surely – I must find it!!!) and what I find amazing is there are many people crossing my path who are not hedophiles and have absolutely no desire to travel

I can travel in my imagination, dream up places and google for hours trying to find a place I imagine. A stunning shark-proof ocean, a Monastery in the mountains, climb into a hot air balloon…… Movies stimulate my mind for places and spaces yet to be discovered by plane, train, car or on foot. I do experience ONISM often but ever thankful for the opportunity given to see where I have

ONISM – is an awareness of how little of the world you’ll experience

It also strikes when I’m staring at the departures board or a map and wish I could go to all of those places at once. Does this happen to you? The more one travels, the harder it gets

Oftentimes it is triggered by the urge for change – perhaps this is you?

NOVATURIENT – a desire for powerful change in one’s life of situation

History is another reason people will travel, to visit those places of fame, dread, fear, danger, intrigue, disaster, and fascination

Once bitten by the bug – PEREGRINATION sets in ……..

PEREGRINATE – travel or wander around from place to place

When I book a new vacation or destination, and during the time before departure, I think of the people we will meet and all the other exciting things ahead

This is VORFREUDE – the joyful, intense anticipation derived from imagining what lies ahead

so, I SAY …… STRIKHEDONIA STREKHEDONIA – the original Greek word meaning – the joy of being able to say ‘to hell with it” !

If you cannot do it, dream it – become a NEFELIBABA

NEFELIBATA – one who lives in the clouds of their own imagination; an unconventional person

OH LOOK DOWN THERE, THROUGH THE CLOUDS FILTERING RAYS OF WARM SUNLIGHT – a mosaic of CARPETS, COLOURS, BUILDINGS, UMBRELLAS – ISTANBUL ……………………… AND SO MANY “UKIYO” wannabes……

You had forgotten why our Magic Carpet is named – UKIYO – “the floating world” – living in the moment, detached from the bothers of life)

Bye from me and a flight of fantasy, fresh air, fat words and flippin difficult pronunciations.

I thought I would add another Blog to treat you to other descriptions and more words https://www.theintrepidguide.com

I am a child of Africa, born in beautiful Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and grew up on a beautiful Tobacco Farm. I've moved many many times and do not really know where I want to put my forever roots down. I have fun doing everyday things away from my home, trying to see the wonderment of life through the eyes of a child. A day out, weekend away, week away...... And months' travelling hold magical memories and events. These are what make me who I am - cautious, adventurous, fun loving & hungry to discover colours, countries, geography, cultures and experiences... and I'm normal too ... tiring travel makes me frowny too sometimes. .... With my lovely life partner (Chris), passport, medical kit, credit card I go..... wherever the wanderings take us..........
